Here's a link to my Flickr set if you want to see more and look at the exif data to see specific shutter speeds etc. July 4 2010 - a set on Flickr
Very nice indeed! Thanks for the exif data.

Dude, what camera / lens are you shooting with?
I've been trying to get some random insect photos recently, but I've either got to up my lens or up my skill because mine have been garbage.

I haven't been getting thread updates either it seems. Hmmm.
For that one I was using my new Nikon D300s and a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 "macro"

I'm not sure why, but with this new camera I'm noticing really soft focus at 2.8 with that lens.
Once I stop down it's razor sharp though. I believe the dragonfly was f/5.6 and it came out a lot better.

What are you shooting with?

Be very careful. Sunflowers are unnatural beasts disguised as flowers. No flower should be that big.
Besides the terror I felt, cute shot

I loved all the fireworks on your flickr! The wavy hand held (I'm assuming) ones came out really cool too. I tried taking some for the first time this year and it just wasn't working out.

My girlfriend and I just got a Canon 550D with kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6) about a month ago, but I haven't had a lot of time to screw around with it yet.

Other than your nice camera, I think I can see where those nice shots are coming from (points at Sigma lens). I'm a huge fan of macro shots, but I don't think I'd ever use it enough to get my moneys worth from it. I'll post some pictures once we've got a few keepers.

It would probably be a pain for bugs, but you could get some extension tubes for around $150. I've only used mine on inanimate objects, since you have about a millimeter of focus, and the lens has to be nearly pressed against your subject.

I know at least one person here has used a coupler to attach 2 lenses together. I've never tried this, but it's another way to get macro shots.
