I've mentioned my friends' band, Former Champions, in the past and got some positive feedback, so I figured I'd keep those people up to date. For those who are not familiar, without giving you the whole spiel, the Former Champions are a 4 piece live electronic rock act from Richmond, VA. They're all formally trained jazz musicians who happen to write really energetic, melodic, fun and interesting music. To put it simply, they rock.

Anyway, the past year was good to the Champs and 2011 is looking even better. Booking for summer gigs is underway and some dates that have already been established include Camp Bisco 10 (Pattersonville, NY, July 7-9), Floyd Fest (Floyd, VA, July 28), and Camp Barefoot (Bartow, WV, August 19). This is in addition to regular local shows in Richmond, VA at Cary St. Cafe (every Tuesday) and City Dogs in the fan (every other Thursday). Here's a video briefly covering some of the events from the summer of 2010 (it's a little over 10 minutes, but worthy of your time). It's part of their new 'Hot Money Fire TV' series that will be a regular occurrence over on their website.

i just recently got back into making music. i'm a drummer/singer... err i mean used to be.
i've been jamming with some guys from 2 different bands that are dis-banded (pun)
Set Fire, Set Sail and Back After Dawn
i think both still have their myspaces up if you want to check out some good tunes.

Yeah, it should be a good time. We'll probably be up in D.C. sometime in the next couple of months as well. You should come check out a show, you won't be disappointed. They usually travel with their own dedicated light and sound guys to deep things up. Lot's of fun had at a Champs show.



Edit: I don't know how I forgot to mention this, but they're about to release their first studio album within the next month or so.

I'm not sure if that's even a pun. A musical band is still a type of band, and bands get disbanded. Unless you're using dis-banding in some other sense that's then a pun on the standard definition.

If the guys you're jamming with were bandits and got kicked out of their respective bands, their bands would get dis-bandit! Now that's a great pun.
