It might be stupid, but I'm really asking. What do you think is on Mars that makes a trip there so beneficial? I just don't see the worth in spending hundreds of billions of dollars on something like a trip to Mars. There's a myriad of better things that money could go towards.

Wow. Leap from the bridge much? There's a point to investing the money that would be spent on a mission to Mars on other more needed ventures. I'd say there's a point to spending money on improving infrastructure or developing alternative energy sources. You don't agree?
