Letting the market operate completely freely is only good to a limited extent. Competition in areas such as the Postal Service, Utilities, Telephone and Internet and Mobile Telephony are very limited. It is hard to get into these markets and gives the big companies too much power. If they are able to buy any start-up and then exploit their customers, what would you do? If electricity cost $1 a unit, how would you live? How can you support a totally free market? Government regulation is needed to avoid price fixing (though it still goes on) and protect the consumer.
