Shuck N Jive (watermelon song)

Now, am I the only one who has this song going on a loop in their head over and over again.
The video content may be downright retarded but those two do make a point. For some inexplicable reason i get drawn to music absolutely devoid of any intelligence (eg. stanky leg, superman dat hoe.....etc) even though i know how bad this shit is. But i do agree, they do have a valid point

the first result for "shuck and jive" at youtube is this

Assuming that this is what you're talking about...

No, most people don't see hip hop or black people like this.

I, and most of humanity (regardless of race) do see gangster hip hop as an embrace of crime and lack of intelligence.

I do see hip hop culture as rebellion by young people as a way of dismissing ridiculous, religious, and racist viewpoints of old fogies. 1/2-generation ago we had the same thing, only we had long-haired earring-wearing gay-looking makeup-wearing biker types.

I do think you're pretty fucking stupid if you embrace mainstream marketed hip-hop but it has nothing to do with race. I don't respect you for being a childish tool, rather than not respecting you because of your race.

If you dig mainstream hip-hop, go right ahead, but you should question your intelligence if it is what you spend your dispensable income on. It's shit and makes you look stupid.

They think the "corporate world" perpetuated this stereotype.
The artists wrote about their own experiences in their neighbohoods, and other people related to it and bought.
The "corporate world" gave you an outlet to push your ideas to the public. Sorry your fans liked and emulate what you told them.
I don't think the suits were the only ones profiting off of it either.

The guys are dumbasses.

Strictly regarding the content:

Is anyone still alive that remembers blackface being a part of pop culture? It's before my grandfather's time, I find it hard to care about this either way. I want to be offended, I suppose. But I'm not, it's just too far in the past for me. I get how it can be a joke, though, like giving Canadians shit over the war of 1812, but I don't actually feel bad. I think funny can be timeless. /shrug

I only remember a few rappers/rap groups that tried to write empowering lyrics. Public Enemy, maybe BDP some of the time, Paris. Who else?

This song is worse than "My Name Is Ben Lerman" for being stuck in my head. I'm guessing my co-workers are also sick of being told to "eat that watermelon".
