Man, I used to see 2 or 3 movies a week -- often at the theater. Now I'm lucky if I see 2 or 3 movies a year.
Well, except for my porn. |

***Slight plot spoiler below***
Quote:
Great performance from the girl (Ellen Page), good direction. The script started out OK but got worse, and the story ended up being a bit ridiculous, when he kept escaping and getting tied down again. The "castration" scene was quite squirm-enducing for a guy to watch, although I'd guessed she was only pretending. (Whoops, plot spoiler) As for the overall tone of the movie, I'd be slightly worried it might give some teenage girls (who are all a lot dumber than the one in the movie) the idea that they can easily overpower and outwit a sexual predator. As a guy I didn't really feel any sympathy for the paedophile, but I wasn't cheering the crazy teen on either. I wouldn't have minded a bit more back-story on what made her so fucked-up; instead the movie begins with their first meeting. Overall, 3/5. |

We went to see The Departed last Friday and was really impressed.
You know what you're going to get from Scorsese and a great cast and you can't fault the acting, although Ray Winstons accent was shite .. stick to Cockney Ray. I've finally forgiven Leonardo DiCaprio for Titanic and all his other films I've sat through. That boy can act ! Overall, not quite up there with Goodfellas as an alltime great. The pacings a bit slow in the middle, there's some loose plot thread (did the shrink actually open the packet and where did Mark Wahlberg go to and come back from ? ) and the ending felt tagged on, like it was audience-chosen. Maybe a "Directors Cut" sometime in the future will be the definative one to watch. Deff worth a look at. |
