This might be a silly question, but what exactly do you do for food and other necessities? From what I know, I wouldn't exactly expect stores and such to be open.. Though I assume there has to be some emergency relief in place. Have a lot of people left New Zealand until after the rebuilding begins?
Yeah it is pretty scary. This is the first big natural disaster i've experienced. Oh most supermarkets are open now, just the ones in the central city aren't. I don't think many people have left, and if they have it's just to get away because of the aftershocks.

That's pretty good then.. Are schools back open and such? Hopefully everything gets back to normal and everyone lends a hand in making it as good as new. Stay safe k.

Thank you, sir.

Just after mentioning I'd never experienced any natural disasters before, Newfoundland was hit by Hurricane/"post tropical" storm Igor.. Where I am we're not really getting the brunt of it, we experienced a lot of rain and strong winds gusting up to 70km/hr here.. Apparently up to 130km/hr on the other side of the island, to go along with really heavy rain.

Tens of millions of dollars in damages. There's been widespread flooding, and the roads have been washed out in a lot of areas. The power has been out in a lot of areas since about 3 pm today.

Hopefulllly my Nana and the rest of my family are okay, they live close to St. John's, where the hurricane hit. The only story about anyone being injured is an 81 year old man who's driveway apparently collapsed under him from the impact of the rain and was washed out to sea. Not good, let's hope everyone else is alright.

This is like the most recent article I believe: Hurricane Igor hits Canada with heavy rains
