Surprisingly someone mashed up the top 25 songs from last year and, personally, I think it turned out good:

I heard their record playing in a barnes and nobles, and actually went out and purchased the thing on VINYL because i thought it sounded like light, catchy, whatever music. One spin later and i was ready to use it as a frisbee. The cheerleader chanting is absolutely GRATING for a whole LP length. (To be fair, there were a couple songs that i liked that i kept the mp3's of, one was Fruit Machine but i can't remember what the other one was)

The mp3 is up at the site DJ Earworm - Music Mashups

To make things simple here's the direct link to the zip: http://www.mp3.earwormmusic.com/unit...he_pop.mp3.zip

What I find interesting is that you compare them to The White Stripes. I don't see any similarities beyond the fact that they're a 2 piece and the fact that the girls in both bands don't have much skill with the instrumentation.

Anyway, I don't write to criticize, I write to recommend other 2 piece bands:
  • Death From Above 1979
  • The Gay Blades
  • The Black Keys
  • Fiery Furnaces
  • The Dresden Dolls
  • The Kills (fuck yes)
The Black Box Revelation is pure fucking awesome as well.

I saw them live last year for a few minutes and they kind of sucked. Maybe that's just live because I liked what I heard on the radio.

So I just thought I'd throw this up here. A while back this guy, DJ Earworm, remixed the top 20 tracks of 2009. I think it had more power because it's a great nostalgia mix about the past year.

But this one is getting some love and I liked it, so I thought I'd share it. Enjoyable because all the repetitive stuff is cut in 1/20th and it sounds like musicians working together...

It's like... one of those... what do you call it... bands?

As trivia, if you didn't know, an "earworm" is a song that gets stuck in your head. You can get it out by listening to another annoying song. Check out http://unhearit.com/ for a playlist to kick it out.
