I like sweetafton23:

I must have listened to that a zillion times whilst my gf was away for 2 months last summer...

There's something to be said for the way Youtube brings it back to the music. When you take out all the insane production and autotune etc, you can really enjoy the songs for what they are.

The Ukulele is taught to Hawaii's school children in 4th grade. My middle school had elective courses in Uke. I never really cared for it

Now that there's a thread for us, I wanna know what kind of ukes other people are playing. Right now I have my dad's 60 year old Roy Smeck that is dilapidated to say the least. I'm looking to buy a concert sized Pono though.

I have a green Maholo, the cheapest ukulele ever, with plastic strings that I have to tune constantly, but which are nicer to my poor fingers. It's awesome as a first ukulele because I wouldn't have felt guilty if I never played it, but I already have plans to buy a better one. Any suggestions?

Ukulele Review - reviews and articles relating to this small 4 stringed instrument

I have a better one saved on the desktop upstairs, but I'm far too lazy to go upstairs right now

I've played gat for years but it wasn't until I got back from Brazil in July that I bought a ukelele. It's a middle of the line ($50) wood-grain finish made by Jack & Danny. I don't know who they are but apparently they've been making them since 1972 it says on there.

Didn't do much research before I bought it, just went into the local music shop and played around with a few and decided that even though there's a definite colourful charm to cheapo Mahalos like Marina's I get frustrated if I have to get on the tuning pegs all the time so I went one level up from there to save my self the pain in the ass.

It was falling in lovey doves with pagode music that convinced me get into playing uke, or as they call it in Brazil (and Portugal where apparently the uke was invented) the cavaquinho. It's like a slower version of Samba and often incorporates funny, sly, malicious and ironic lyrics but also some gorgeous love songs. Look up Zeca Pagodinho or Martinho Da Vila on Youtube anyone who's curious.

Also love ol' Brudda Iz Kamakawiwo'ole and his covers, even if Over The Rainbow was played into the ground by that tv commercial that leeched off its awesomeness.

Thanks for those links too Akai, you rule.

If anyone wants to see some really good playing check out the top uke video contest that ukulelehunt.com is doing. So far for entertainment/catchy song factor I like "Same old lines" but for playing I think "I believe she's lying" wins, although the Hotel California intro is pretty crazy...

The Hotel California one is pretty cool

This one is awesome because, not only is it an original song, it's a father/daughter team and they're adorable.
