Who wants to help with law school?

I need to write a paper for Entertainment Law. There is no guidance, just that I have to write a paper. I cannot think of a topic to write on and it is beginning to pose a problem since topics are due soon. So, please, anyone, share any legal issue in the entertainment industry that you think could be fun for a law class.

I'd like to stay away from the headliner stories, everyone knows about them and that's no fun.

Thank you!!!

That’s fascinating, thank you! Is this something you’ve had personal experience with? If so, I’d love to chat a bit during a wednesday night chat party. Maybe hear stories from anyone who has any. Maybe also hear about the simpsons website some more, if that was an issue there. Todah!!!

I don't have a topic but I am in the middle of paralegal school right now so I have to write a lot of papers about legal issues too. Cheers to Zoom college in the middle of a pandemic! *fist pound*

Looks like we didn't get a chance this Wednesday to talk about it.

Artists have to read legalese in the most vulnerable and possibly most desperate times. The docs can have an affect on the entire future of their career. They need representation from the people who tell them they are "investing" in their career.

Another interesting topic, at least tangentially related to entertainment law, is the copyrightability of pornography. There's a not crazy argument that porn shouldn't be subject to copyright protection. The constitution says that congress shall pass copyright laws to protect the useful arts and sciences. IIRC, the 5th Circuit decided in the 1950s that porn was properly subject to copyright, but when I read the case I wasn't convinced. Every court to look at it since relies on this 5th Circuit decision as if it's canon.

I made this argument when I had a client who was sued by a copyright troll for allegedly downloading "Shemale Samba Mania #33"* on a bit torrent site a few years ago. The Court properly dismissed on procedural grounds and ignored my argument, but I think it would make an interesting paper.

*Let me tell you that if you haven't seen numbers 1 through 32, it's not worth watching 33.

There are more Wednesdays in our future, and Craig, Danielle, and I had a good conversation last week

That is very interesting, thank you! I did already submit the other topic but this is definitively a good topic as well.
