A Fighter's Mind by Sam Sheridan is pretty good.

However, it is not as good as Sheridan's A Fighter's Heart.

1) The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer (sci-fi with clones and such) it's been my favourite book since I was a kid and I've probably re-read it a billion times

2) The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (historical, romance, action/adventure etc) plus there's a tv mini-series that just started to air and so far I'm really liking it

3) Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (sci-fi, dystopian)

4) Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood (dystopian, futuristic)

I love House of the Scorpion. Easily one of the most re-readable books ever.

Yay, I'm so glad! Most people have never heard of the book.
Okay, so one down, three to go =)

This is the last book I read. I would only recommend it for someone in the mood for a melancholy book, and only in that case because it only takes a few hours or less to read and can work for some sort of catharsis for neurotic types. It is about a guy who is aging, and filled with regret and with the terror of his impending death. It's redeeming qualities are that the protagonist isn't perfect and his flaws aren't shallow, but we still like him because he's the "everyman" representing the common human flaws and fears. It's also interesting because it shows a person in old age with relateable qualities like libido, and doubt and the things we like to imagine disappear in old age. It was my first Roth book, and I'm told he can be much much better, but if this is his so-so, I think he's pretty awesome.

Because I'm a nerd. I like science, and I found the subject matter and the author's writing fascinating. It's always great when you find a science-related book on a subject that interests you and written in a "language" that doesn't constantly fly over your head.

Not an "absolute favorite" but a good and relatively deep book.

This is one of those books that you read a bit from while you're shitting, or just bored at a given moment...I guess you can read through it, but it's not that kind of book for me. Anyway it's pretty fun, and yeah it's about different ways of dying, but it has good humor and tons of interesting tidbits and a fun representation of various different ways in which you could croak.

I ordered this book a few days ago. I wanted to read it after seeing the trailer for the movie, which looked promising, and because someone said this book made them so mad but they still loved it. Can't wait to start reading.

This book's been sitting on my shelf for over a year now, I really should get to it.
