What's East Bushwick, Brooklyn like?
Hey guys.
I need some first hand info from the NYC listeners. I recently moved to Queens and I've been trying join another punk band up here. That being said I found some guys to jam with but they practice in East Bushwick off Church Avenue. I've read that's not the best area but most of these statements were from about 4-5 years. Has the neighborhood gotten any better since then? I want to join the band but I'm not really looking in to going to a shitty neighborhood 2-3 times a week since I would be taking the train back late at night by myself. If it matters I'm a 25 year old white guy. Just want to know what I would be getting myself into. Thanks! Last edited by Articthunder666; 04-18-2013 at 10:39 AM. |

Bushwick is full of hipsters who need lower rent. They have been making the rent increase since they started leaking out of Williamsburg and into Bushwick, which does mean that the neighborhood has been getting better. It's still a place that you need to be alert at night about, but it's definitely better than 4-5 years ago.

Thanks Keith! Sounds kinda like Bedstuy. I've been there before and it wasn't too bad then again I was with some friends. But like you said, I'll be alert if I decide to venture there.

I live off of Eldert St and Bushwick Ave., which is pretty far east in Bushwick. I have late nights, and I haven't run into any real trouble walking home from the train (which is about a quarter mile walk.) Stay alert, stay alive, don't look like an easy target and you'll be fine. It's New York City, baby.
