What to see in NYC
My husband and I are going to NYC for a few days. We've both been there before and have done the touristy things (Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, etc). My question is, what are the lesser known things that we shouldn't miss? Also, since this trip is for our anniversary, we want to have one really nice dinner. Any suggestions? We want to stay under $200 per person. Thanks in advance!

If you're in midtown, I'd recommend Lattanzi. http://lattanzinyc.com/
If you're elsewhere, tell me where and I'll recommend something else. |

Get a burger and frozen custard at shake shack in madison square park. Eat at Bareburger because I think it's the best damn burger in the city. Near the shake shack in madison square park is a place called Eataly. It's a large italian market place with several restaurants. Fun place to walk around, get gelato, espresso, tiramisu, fresh pasta and bread, imported italian foodstuffs and shit like that. Definitely go to the Comedy Cellar or try and find out where jesse joyce, pat dixon, etc are performing. Try to get tickets to The Book of Mormon. |
Used to love Bar Americain. Was less happy the last time I was there. I would recommend Del Frisco's over it. Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse and Seafood Restaurants
BLT is supposed to be great, but I've never been there. BLT Steak « ESquared |
The High Line is a fun and unique park, and it's free.

After going down there KATG week, definitely see if you can catch a show at the Creek and the Cave. I really enjoyed that place.

Go to the south street seaport for the views, shopping, and most importantly the Bodies exhibit.
Go see ground zero. Go see the MET and/or MoMA. Attempt to eat at Per Se or Eleven Madison Park as they were recently just ranked #6 and #10 of best restaurants on the planet. |
Per Se is a nice idea, but it's $295 per person prix fixe.
And that's before a nice bottle of wine. Eleven Madison Park is $125 for the Four Course menu or $195 per person for the Tasting Menu then you can get the wine pairings for $95 or $145. That's close to budget. |
You should walk around Central Park and try not to get lost. The park is remarkable. It changes over and over as you walk through it.
If you do get lost, just look for the buildings and walk to them. |

For fine dining on a budget, I'd highly recommend eating at L'ecole, the restaurant at the French Culinary Institute. It's 4 courses (not including digestive salad) for $42. That's a price that cannot be beat. |
