My mom did the "I'm such a horrible mother" but the crying version. Aka, she's losing an argument, or just can't figure out any other way to hurt me, so she attacks herself to hurt me (see, there is this unfortunate love thing we can't seem to get rid of, despite that we can't stand each other).
The Last Time Mom Pulled That Crap
Mom: (boo hoo) I know I was such a failure to you and your sister.
Me: Yeah, but it's ok. See, we turned out fine.
Mom: (nearly stripping gears going from acting all weepy and then getting a little pissed) What?
Me: I know you want me to say, "No, no, you were great." But you weren't. Really, you weren't that good a mom. But it's the past. Heck, I've forgotten most of it. The important part is I'm doing fine now.
Mom: (in shock says nothing)
I get to leave the room, and sure enough, in an hour history has been erased and we all pretend it never happened.
My mom is currently pulling a pattern on my daughter. She did this with my nephew Corey first.
Baby, pre-talking: Mom loves them.
Baby, talking: Mom loves them. Spoils them. Says we are mean in front of my daughter when we don't let her misbehave. Dad does this too. But I call dad out on it immediately.
Young Kid: Equally praising and damning. Hypercritical. Here, have fun with me, even though you can do noting right.
Teen: Only complain to them. Badmouth them in front of others. Try to force them to be the black sheep of the family (heck, it worked with me, why not try it on everyone.)
Though I love my mother, because I cannot help it. I really hope she dies soon. Her health is horrible. I just want her to not ruin things with my daughter.
In fact, as odd as it seems, before my daughter we only saw my parents 7 times a year, on the required holidays/brithdays. Now we see them weekly. At first I was having nervous breakdowns.
Well, I can bitch all day. Short version, Mom is evil, even though I'm not sure she even knows what evil is.
