I use the free version on a closed network at work. Everyone connected can download from anyone's playlist (It doesn't work for DRM protected files). I think it's when you buy the full version for $10 that you can browse online libraries and subcribe to others' playlists and download their stuff.

EDIT- To share online, you have to buy licenses. For example, $27 gets you nine licenses, which equals nine friends you can share with. No restrictions apply to local networks.
