I get this question a lot. And usually the question is answered after I take said person to the range. "Oh, now I get it. It's fun!"
Some of the ones I own are for home defense, others for hunting, some are old war relics (the bolt action rifle I posted earlier in the thread was brought back from WW2 by my great grandfather, who took it from a nazi). And some are just for sport and fun. It's enjoyable to take the weapons to the range and do some target practice.
It really is just like any other hobby. Some people knit, some collect glass elephants, some people build model cars. I shoot/collect firearms.
