Researchers find new phase of carbon, make diamond at room temperature
They shoot a laser at carbon goo and then cool it down to make "Q-Carbon" that's as hard as diamond, glows, and has interesting conductive properties. Huge implications for electronics, especially things like cellphones. Phone screens will probably have diamond coatings for strength and last up to 6 months in the Malley household.
In fact, almost every part of a cellphone could be made of Q-Carbon. If this process can be scaled up economically, you could live in a diamond house with 1cm insulated, bomb-proof walls, made out of reclaimed carbon from pollution.
