So you guys had no problem listening to a show making sometimes quite crude jokes and commentary about murder and rape but listening to Pat trying to stay objective here is what gets you to stop listening to the NYC crime report?

Polygraphs can show both false positive responses and false negative responses. The Amer. Polygraph Association places the accuracy at about 87-89% and the Nat. Acad. of Science published a 2003 study showing this at 85-89%. Still, the government (FBI) does use them, such as for anyone applying for top secret clearance.

In no state can anyone be forced by the police or anyone else to take a polygraph examination. Almost every state fits into one of two categories; those that find them completely inadmissible and those that allow their admission with "the stipulations of both parties" (meaning both defendant and the prosecutor agree to admit the test results as evidence).
I was surprised to hear polygraphs mentioned so much as I thought everyone knew they were discredited a long time ago. TV and movies keep them alive cause it's a good gimmick.

When Pat called Chemda on her hostility, she backed off, composed herself and attempted to be more calm and less emotional, which was great. It seemed like he didn't do the same thing though. I hope all's good behind the scenes and he'll be back. I appreciated him trying to just go through the points, it's unfortunate the tone went askew at the start.

Usually I pay zero attention to Woody. I've only seen one of his movies because it had Scar Jo in it. I've only ever heard about these cases through opinion based shows so really have no idea to the truth. The people who had all the cold hard evidence didn't take it to trial, so??? Sun-yi seems happy. Stories of Mia being so cukkoo does not help. But Dylan man, poor Dylan. No matter what actually happened, her head is still all kinds of fucked up.

I can't say much about Pat Dixon seeing as i don't know the man but i really think he did a piss poor job of pushing his side of the debate/discussion they were having. He flipflopped around and often, in my opinion, couldn't keep to his own line of thought.
I was curious about his podcast but im thinking i'll leave it alone.

Except that Pat spent most of the time responding to specific points Keith and Chemda were making. Chemda was responding fairly specifically too. Even if they didn't end up agreeing I thought they listened to each other pretty well.

I thought Pat's points were great, about staying objective on the subject. There seems to be hysteria about pedophilia - yes, child abuse accusations should be taken seriously and investigated but "Someone said he touched his kid. Yeah, he looks like a creep! It makes sense."?

I'm not voting in the poll because I simply don't know if Woody Allen touched Dylan. No-one knows apart from the people involved.

Also, brandishing pedophiles as monsters mythologises them, which A) turns them into hate figures and stops pedophiles (even ones who harbor desires but do not act on them) to come forward for therapy and, therefore, stop children being abused; and B) Brings people to think that child abusers are "other". No, it could be your boss, your husband, your brother or your best friend, whether they have acted on their feelings or not. They could have it as their main sexuality or just occasionally/rarely think about it.

It's a myth to think these people are backward, retarded, socially awkward losers, and it's dangerous to think that way, as it means abusers can get away with it for longer, hiding under the cover of disbelief. Once society gets real about pedophilia, we will be in a far better position to stop it before it happens, and recognise it when it has happened. Fewer kids will be abused.

Offering support, and promoting reconciliation, accountability and taking responsibility to pedophiles is not something which should be viewed as "why should we help these disgusting people?" but rather: what can we do for people to recognise these tendencies in themselves, and stop them before they happen, and therefore reduce the amount of abuse cases?

Pat did two things on the show.
1) He put made up points that he claimed Keith and Chemda were trying to make.
2) He showed why the case was never prosecuted. NOT why Woody is innocent.

Here's the thing though. We don't give a shit why the case wasn't legally prosecuted. We care why Pat Dixon personally thinks Woody Allen is a good man who did nothing wrong.
Keith, Blitzgal, thirteen and 5 others like this.
