Good show nonetheless
There must be a show such as this every now and again. If every guest was right in line with the opinions of the community it's get boring. That's for any show. The Hosts stepped up and seemingly begrudgingly pulled this one off. I could immediately tell once the tone changed where this was going. Listening "between the lines" this was great.

HAHAHAHA!
oh my god! you could cut the perceived but not real sexual tension in that room with a knife. I get her wanting to defend her ex-cohosts on the view (I'm sure an NDA was involved as well), and if her attitude stopped there that would be fine. But holy crap! The ego on this woman! The inability to let other's lead the conversation and see where it goes. I guess the famous improv group of Barn Yarns didn't teach her how to Yes, and. Actually, I take it back. She didn't have an ego. Her self esteem must be low because she was taking every opportunity to think you were insulting her (Why are we talking about Star Trek? LOL dad jokes! OK but let me repeat for the 4th time I thought you were married. I'm not crazy!) and preemptively got aggressive with you so you couldn't "Get" her. I honestly hope you have her back after her podcast fails so she can talk about how hard it is to do. I'm sorry I'm so late to this episode and this discussion ya'll!

I get it. Rape fantasy is a real thing for many people. Just you know, in a controlled environment with someone you choose who is not actually raping you. It's a game. But from her own description you can tell she's into the absolute worst men who treat her like shit so she's it's no surprise she's into rich, assholes with lots of power who are emotionally unavailable and then treat you like a sexual object behind closed doors (like the men on Handmaid's Tale.) |

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude and I get that rape fantasies are common, and completely valid. That said, I think that the handmaid's tale is cold, sterile, and completely devoid of any real lust or passion (outside of her scenes with luke and later scenes with nick). It's not like we're talking about Troy here, with what's her name being taken as captive by Brad Pitt. Or even 50 shades, which was also about a fucked up power dynamic, but done in a sexy(or attempt at sexy) way. And I think the show went out of its way to be not sexy and not rape famtasy like, but instead focus on the raw horror of what is happening to these people. That's what has me confused. |

Re: Handmaid's Tale & Keith
Keith I totally found the show to be fucking boring and slow and unimpactful for the first 3 episodes so if you were kinda paying attention while Catherine watched those I get where ya coming from. The stakes don't feel threatening for a while, and in all of the flashbacks the dialog is so stiff.
But by the last 10 minutes of ep3 and on there are real issues and character's motivations help you give a fuck. Where as before it just felt like a generic, kinda chastising, "wouldn't it be scary if the world was like and everyone had to talk in a low whisper and wear dresses and hoods? Don't let it get this bad." |
