It is partially the influence of the US, but it is also our own ineptitude. The Metric system was introduced in 1970 by law, but it took until 1977 to have all the road signs in metric and I remember first learning about it, in grade 4, after three years of imperial measurement learnings. Interestingly it was introduced by Pierre Trudeau, the current PM's father.

I'm waiting for metric time. 100 seconds in a minute 100 minutes in an hour, 10 hours in a day or some such..

This basing time off the movements of planets, moons, and suns is silly....
