Either your brain believes it to be so and sends the message to your arm that it hurts, or you were sleeping on your arm in such a way that the resulting pain manifested in your dream. I once had a dream that someone stabbed me in the leg and when I woke up I had a horrible charley horse in the same area of my thigh. I certainly didn't think that someone had just stabbed me in real life. Why the hell would you make the leap of logic to think that a damned ghost did it? Silliness.

Now that everyone I know has a young kid, I've learned that apparently they figure out how to diddle themselves at very young ages. Every time you change the diaper, their hands move down.
