i've been smoking up since freshman year college, after i got out of opus dei hell. it's on and off, when i'm bored i smoke more, etc.

yeah i can stop. it's come down to just smoking once a day, just before bed...

I was about done with this thread and then I saw that Pala had contributed and wanted to see what he had to say.

By the way, the answer for me would be "yes" to everything but caffine. I am not giving up my morning coffee and if that makes me an addict then I am. I want my hot black coffee.

I used to be highly addicted to caffine myself, it was a very hard addiction to break. I dropped it cold turkey and had lasting headaches for a couple weeks but I think it was a good decision, my blood pressure has lowered enough since I did it that I could come off the medication I was on.

Other than that I've really been pretty under control with vices my whole life. The only other thing I do is drink which may have been excessive at times but usually falls into the social catagory.

Yeah, I just don't have a week to blow on headaches and naps. It's not like I have high blood pressure or any of the other difficulties that come with too much caffine. I would consider keeping it to a single cup in the morning on a challenge, but I wouldn't want to go below that amount.

I actually was just reading up on SMART Recovery, an AA alternative. AA is all about a higher power, masked religion BS, but SMART is more about self control and reliance. I am too much of an atheist to ever stomach AA. It's not a coincidence that 90% of their meetings are held in churches.

Just do what works for you dude.

IMHO AA is much more religion-based in the US than it is anywhere else. New Zealand is pretty much a godless place and AA gets along just fine here.
