Often one of the brightest warning signs with these operators is that what you are getting is actually a canned response that does not mention the specific item being bought or sold.

When they aren't referring to the specific item (ie Macbook) in their communications - it's a scam. This happens for two reasons. First is that they are running so many games with equally imaginary things to sell or rent that they just can't keep them straight. This happens equally on the buying side where the scammers will blast out emails to every craigslist seller expressing interest in 'your item'.

The second is because it tends to work. Like the bubbling pix, our minds fill in blanks all the time - especially when we add the rush of getting a sweet deal. Look back at the communication - he never once refers to the actual item - just 'it' or 'the item' or whatever. I particularly like the part where he says

'It's in perfect condition, no scratches, dings or laid down'

...Which sounds like a cut and paste from the "fake motorcycle script".

Buy on eBay - it will take you a little longer but people care about their eBay Feedback. Do everything over paypal - so if they start to play sketchy games you can get your money back

It was from kijiji. So glad I didn't rush into it even though I was excited. Definitlly a scam. Boo thanks for your help guys!

Doesn't seem legitimate to me.

Laid down is a motorcycle term meaning i didn't drop the bike or crash it. Which is a big red flag like he took a post for a used bike and changed it to fit.
