It. Was. Awesome.

The opening bands were sleep-inducing, but Agalloch sure as hell woke everyone up. They sounded fantastic, played a great set and I loved every minute of it. So worth getting home at 5am on a workday.

I felt bad for the peeps standing in front of us outside waiting for the doors to open... an hour in the cold to find out the show was sold out. Sure glad I bought my tickets beforehand.

Goddamn, I am totally jealous. I was reading some reviews of the NYC show and they all said just to skip the openers. I'll eventually see Agalloch...one of these days. Glad you had fun, duder

Two bands that I actually kind of like, but were not a great choice to see live.

Locrian, who's style I can't even really explain. Very ambient and atmospheric, no real song structure. Good background music, not so good band to see live. As I heard one fellow attendee say, "their music is like one big buildup to nothing."

Then the other opening band was Worm Ourobos, who I actually like quite a bit, but they're WAAAAAAY too mellow to be opening this show. Everyone in the place was getting extremely anxious for them to finish by the time they were halfway through their set.

yeesh. locrian are a hard listen on record already. i guess they have been chosen since John seems to love dark ambient stuff.

Worm Ouroboros are cool but they dont fit agalloch either. although that has to do with the fact that Aesop plays with them.

its hit or miss with opening bands. usually i like seeing them since its the best way to hear stuff you'd hardly hear otherwise. but you can also get tricked. Last time i saw Ulver li8ve, we were treated with Attila Csihar vocal drone solo experiment. i wanted to DIE.

i hope to see agalloch in europe sometime soon.

Picked up the new Amon Amarth yesterday. It makes me want to ride a horse to work at full gallop and smash some skulls with a mace tomorrow.
