Bigger files than others.

Not complaining, just curious.

I've noticed that KATG's podcast file size is bigger than most of the other podcasts I listen to. Even though the others are the same length or longer they are usually under the 50 mb mark and KATG is usually above 100 mb. Anyone know why that is?

I think it's a good thing.

Keith and the Girl = 160kbps
Adam Carolla = 128kbps
MacBreak Weekly = 64kbps (a bit surprised by this one)

Bigger in this case is better. I listen to a couple other podcasts and the lower audio quality really grinds my gears. Is it breaking your bandwidth per month? Maybe stop downloading porn.

64kbps is usually okay for straight speech if the initial recording is okay. When you throw in things like a theme, phone calls that aren't necessarily always great quality, and playing sound clips and clips from YouTube, 64kbps is nowhere near what you need for it to sound good, and so you have to bump up the bitrate and therefore the filesize.

I listen to (probably too) many podcasts and KATG is always in the highest band when it comes to sound quality. I'm fine with a bigger download for that.

It's because it's in stereo. Twice the size without twice the quality. shrug. Oh well, it's free.

Want proof? NPRs podcasts sound great and are half the size because they're mono.

Fortunately I have an 80GB Ipod. It blows my mind the poor audio quality of some other podcasts. You can tell Keith and Chemda put a lot of work into the show.
