I've written a number in scientific notation before. A few periods doesn't matter.

1988. It's pretty simple. You just witte it as a decamal and then times it by ten to the power of how many places the decamal moved.

19.9 X 10 squared = 1990.

It's more used for larger numbers with a lot of Zeros at the end
