Community
I recently started watching this show which has surfaced Down Under. I love it, but I've heard recently that Chevy Chase has had a major falling out with the director of the show.
I am right in remembering that the subject of Chevy Chase being an arsehole came up on the show in the past and was that discussion about this show? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 |

Really enjoyed the past seasons though; very clever and they would have a couple oddball episodes where they try something really different (they are characters in a video game in one episode, heaps of old school references). This new season is like an oddball episode each time and nothing hits like it used to. ENJOY! Then stop!

My kids and I love it, and yeah, Chevy Chase has said that he will not be returning if the show does.
The bad blood was between Chevy and the creator, and it's understandable if you know a bit about Chevy's life. Every awful thing about his character has a root in Chevy's personal life. It's like Dan Harmon read Chevy's biography looking for details specifically to exploit and make him feel like shit. The most obvious example being that his real name is Cornelius, which is Pierce's dad's name in the show, and Pierce's dad was a lot like Chevy's birth father.

Dan Harmon, the showrunner and creator of Community, was fired in between seasons 3 and 4. While it's true that season 4 feels a little off, it's still definitely worthy on it's own right. It may not attain the peaks Community did in its prime, but it's still a very very good sitcom.
But Community in its prime is un-fucking-touchable. The best episodes on television, easy. |

I have to say that it was my 6 year old that happened across Community a few weeks back. It was the paint ball episode and it was fricken epic.
I've always had a soft spot for Chevy Chase. Loved the original Caddyshack and the Fletch movies were cool too. I could take or leave the Nat. Lampoons but I'd still watch 'em. Chase is one of those actors who I always wanted to see do a dramatic role. I reckon he woulda pulled it off brilliantly but I guess he was type cast. So when I saw him in Community, it was kinda like 'Oh cool, he's still working and he's doing so on a really decent comedy'. Sad to think it has all gone pear shaped. Definitely the funniest thing I've seen on the box in a long time. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

Dan has said a couple of times on his Harmontown podcast that he still talks to Chevy sometimes - even rang Chevy's phone live during the show but only got answerphone - and they have an ok relationship. Chevy's pretty famously ornery to work with though, which is a big part of why his career went down the shitter for decades in spite of the fact he's one of the five funniest people ever to be on a screen.
For anyone who's thinking of testing the waters of Harmontown I recommend the shit out of starting with an episode which features Kumail Nanjiani. The show is recorded live in front of an audience (I think in the same room where KATG recorded live in LA) and is pretty ramshackle, and Harmon isn't a natural performer, but he charismatic as fuck and almost certainly some kind of actual genius. And Kumail is one of the five funniest people ever to be in an iPod. |

I've heard Kumail before and I agree, he is outlandish (in a good way).
Though I could google it, what was it about Chevy Chase's past that Harmon honed in on within the story lines that so ticked off Chase? I've worked out that we're currently on Season 2 Down Under. Saw the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons ep last night with Fat Neil. Comedy gold. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2 |

Yeah, the back half of season 1 and all of season 2 might be television's crowning achievements for me. There's so much inventiveness and humor and emotion and actual ambition behind those episodes. Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas and the fake clip show episode are my favorites.
