There's a similar program available for download at http://beginnertriathlete.com/
also called Couch to 5k.

The cool thing about that site is that you can log all your training in a blog, with times & distances & map out your route (with distance) for saving, so it tracks it all for you. They also have various videos that help show you techniques. Most of the site is free to use, but you can pay for more advanced training programs if you want.

Don't let the name of the site fool you, you can use it all for exclusively running if that's all you're interested in.

Wow, walking? One day I just started jogging for a mile straight, usually feeling lightheaded after. Got up to 2 miles after like 2 weeks. Then my shin hurt and I stopped.

Two weeks ago i said out loud for the first time to a friend that I had been interested in doing a marathon. She said there's a 5K in two months and that I should start there. I signed up and have been training for the past two weeks. I've never in my life been a runner and I feel like now I can be. It's quite the good feeling.

I am exercising quite a bit lately but not really loosing any weight. I guess that's because I need more cardio. I hate running myself but everybody else seems to be obsessed with it so when I saw this thread I thought maybe I should force myself and just do it.

I did the first session from the "couch to 5K" plan today and it wasn't fun but lets see what I say in two weeks. I do have one question though - what speed do you use for the walking vs jogging or do you not know? I did the session on a treadmill and went 4.5 km/h for the walk and 8 km/h for the jog - is that slow/fast/normal? Sorry but I really have no clue last time I ran was in highschool ...

Really, any pace is good as long as you are able to continue.

At this stage I would be more focused on duration than how fast you are going. Your run should be comfortable enough that you can complete the workout. I believe most of the C25K programs focus on time goals rather than distance goals in the beginning.
