Maybe there should be more, but there's not a lot of bad things being posted. Yes there are some stupid threads, but in the long scheme of things that's not a bad thing. I also hate the idea of limiting people by post count of their ability to start threads. I don't have many posts, yes over 100, but I hate forums that limit people like that. I moderate forums for two other sites with much stricter rules than the KATG forums. It's like a slap in the face to be limited, at least for me. I have to ban people for being too sexually explicit or too offensive regularly, I'm not someone who should be need to regulated like that.

on the subject of useless threads, I am guilty of course, but KATG forums are differnt than the rest of the interwebs I have noticed.

topics here that are concidered usless garbage arent seen in the same light on other forums, also in other forums areas like "General discussion" which is just talk shite here, are broken down into catagories like Music, Movies, relationships, porn, etc etc etc.

as for moderators, I think its a decent idea, but for there to be any form of moderation there needs to be some concrete solid clear rules on what is okay and what isnt, beacuse honestly I cant see what threads are concidered garbage and those are concidered funny and interesting sometimes. Though i think my username has become a target for "usless thread" flames. Not that I give a shit, its KATG and things like that are to be expected. Least it isnt 4chan.

Think about what has made the show and these forums so successful thus far, and you'll find your answer.

Regarding old threads clogging up the arteries of the database and post counts.....

I'm pretty sure that there is a way to archive or segregate old threads without affecting the current members' post counts. Can someone check the vBulletin forums or tech support for that?

But in general, yeah, any forum with members from all over the world needs moderation. It's a given.

The problem of having a minimum number of posts to start a thread is that it encourages quantity over quality. Those that want to start a pointless thread can spam 100 posts pretty quickly

If you read back through the thread Firefighterchick started asking why threads were being deleted, you will find that the threads that got deleted... got deleted. They were not archived.

And the issue is not post count. Many people conceeded that while there was a "post war" at one time, that the post count is not nearly as important as the things that were shared in the threads that were deleted.

I think if there is moderation it should be to the tune of old threads being deleted that haven't been touched for say, a month or two (unless they are still relevant to current events or something of the sort). For example, the Canadian Thanksgiving thread from last October. Nobody has been in that for ages. There are TONS of threads from years ago that nobody has touched, so get rid of those!

Before the *NA threads were deleted, I joked about it, but after seeing everyone's reactions, I tend to agree with all of the *NA posters, it was a shitty thing to do to the old school fans that sort of "made" katg who it is.

The only problem with moderation in an environment like this, is that power, of any form, gets to peoples heads eventually and they turn into assholes who take it too far.
