Yeah that's where I think ego partly comes in, some people could change a little and they wouldn't be so heavily stereotyped. I don't dress or like like a police profile/stereotype so I don't get stopped, but some people don't have that option where they just stereotype you very basically.

Agreed. As a teenager I dressed fairly punky, but most of my style was to compensate for the fact that we had no money and everything I wore came from the thrift store or had holes in it anyway, so I just got creative. It got fairly involved and I would end up putting several hours into each piece of my clothing, adding patches and tailoring it, but moms would pull their children close to them when I walked into their line of sight. On the odd side, old women loved me. I think because their generation understands how much effort that much sewing really takes.

lol It doesnt matter what you wear, people have this fear instilled. I was goin in for an interview and the interviewer was in the same elevator as me, she doesnt kno im the interviewee. So we both get on the elevator. I get in first, she gets in after. So im standing behind her and shes clutching her purse. I reach over to press the elevator button and she jumped and freaked out a lil bit. She didnt think I noticed, but I saw in my peripheral vision. fast foward. I get called in the office for the interview. And she had a look on her face, as if she wanted to say sorry for something. Shits disgusting.

including xenophobia in with racism, especially when its a male black and a female white, is almost as bad as including sexual assault in with rape.
almost. stereotyping when prosecution/persecution is not involved is simply risk management, and if you dont do it yourself, you arent long for this world. Last edited by spooky; 09-12-2008 at 12:27 PM. |
