I like the idea of a weekly chat party and I would definitely participate whenever I could.

Im kind of confused as to what movie were supposed to watch. Is it battle Royal, or the sci-fi one you mentioned?

I just haven't gotten around to watching the movie yet...but I will, and I'm sure something similar is the case for others.

You didn't kill Film Club dude, cause FILM CLUB CAN'T DIE.

Also, I'd be down for something like the chat idea, especially considering Thursdays work great for me.

I just finished the movie and I have to say so far film club hasn't let me down yet. I have to admit, although the trailer caught me interest enough to get my hands on the movie I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. I have to say though there aren't enough movies around like this, that rely almost entirely on the writing. The only other one I can think of is Primer, which wasn't nearly as accessible or straight forward as The Man From Earth was.

I wouldn't say the acting was fantastic but it was acceptable and the story more than made up for it. The only part of the story that bothered me a little was the last scene, which felt like a forced happy ending.

Meh.

I hated the look, feel, and sound of this movie. What do you call that? Production value? Anyway, it was very distracting.

SPOILERS:
Also, I kept thinking of that SNL skit with Phil Hartman about the cavemen lawyer. "Ladies and gentleman of the jury, I'm just a simple caveman. I don't understand your modern ways..." I was waiting for John to say he used the last name KeyRock at some point.

As for the plot itself, and the story within the story, I found it thought-provoking, to an extent. I liked how this one man's story explained so much: vampire myths, the Jesus resurrection myth, etc. That was clever. But I thought it was ridiculous that this one guy had just happened to have studied with Buddha, been Jesus, and been best buddies with some famous cave painter and... what great master artist was it? I forget. Anyway, that was pretty questionable. Not to mention that he just happened to be the other guy's dad. So, overall, I think it was a really interesting idea, but I'm not too pleased with what they did with it.
C+

My internet's down at the minute, no happiness for me. I did watch Running Scared though, so don't burn my Film Club diploma just yet.

watched The Man from earth this morning and really enjoyed the movie. This is a low budget use your imagination story that makes you listen more than using special effects. The only problem I had is the very ending wasn't needed, the whole scene with the psychiatrist could have been cut out completely and not ruined the movie.
