i agree, except i think it added a little more solidification to his claims but i think they could of done this a different way

I'm currently working my way through the classics so I will push onto the film club also. On the waterfront
I've never seen anything with Marlon Brando where he wasn't giant so this hopefully will be good

Yes! And Ssgtballard breaks the pattern of relatively "new" movies. Good job man. I was worried that'd become an unwritten rule of Film Club.

I still haven't gotten a chance to catch the last film because I've been busy with school and what not, but I'll probably watch both this and the past film tonight. I hope.

Finally got around to watching The Man From Earth, and I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it.

While I don't really care too much for special effects being present in a movie or not, things don't have to be shiny to be good...I do think the ridiculously low camera quality (if that's even the term for it) took away from my experience of the film. It looked so much like some one just had their regular camcorder on them while shooting. Not in the Blair Witch / Cloverfield way, just in the...this looks crappy way.

The movie was just kinda, interesting but not that well done in my opinion. It raised some interesting things to think about and I did want to know, well is he really that old? is he full of shit? is he nuts cause he seems pretty collected? The blonde professor's quick and fierce objection to John's story was kinda very strange to me, almost forced just to get the psychiatrist character into the story, who ultimately, besides being another person to probe John with questions, I think is also a forced character just to have that "I'm your father" moment in the end which is kinda, bleh but at least that totally sealed the deal on whether or not he's really that old.

Also that prof was like mackin' on that young student, and that's just gross.

I dunno, I feel like there's definitely something there, the idea isn't bad at all and the writing is a bit wonky but not baaad, just the end product is a bit lack luster, but the movie's been on my queue off and on for a while so I'm glad I watched it and I'm not upset with the choice.

When would the chat/movie watching take place?

And where...on the regular KATG chat room?
I'd be totally up for it, I'm free pretty much all day, the only thing stopping me would be if I end up having to do something I can't currently forsee.

I think The Man From Earth might have made for a better movie if it was never revealed whether he was telling the truth or not. It's almost irrelevant whether he is lying or not.

One of the things I enjoyed most about the movie was them having a room full of intellectuals and scholars who are completely baffled by John's revelation and don't know how to react. Some of them become defensive, because of what he would mean to their field of study, and some are a lot more willing to discuss possibilities, no matter how improbable. I think the movie was an interesting character study on how these different people react to the possibility that everything they believe they know is wrong and having their belief systems (religious and otherwise) flipped onto their head.
