O brave new world that has such people in it!
I just got back home yesterday night. I'd have watched it on the trip if you fuckers didn't take a week to pick a movie.

I've only been able to watch half of it, because all my procrastination has caught up with me and the past and present week are filled with midterms and papers.

If I'm the only one who watches this movie, do I pick myself to go again? lol

I'm sorry I have not been participating. I have been keeping myself busy on the production of my own film. I'm trying to not get too distracted away from finishing the first draft of the script.

im still participating, just really behind. i will finish watching dogtooth, cuz i like to finish things, even if it sucks. lol

i will get around to watching macbeth cuz its picard and shakespear but i cant really do a movie every 2 days. i think a movie a week might be more realistic. otherwise, keep on rollin and i'll watch things when i get time... kinda hard to juggle work, 2 kids, video games, porn, sleep, and film club.

Every 2 days is usually doable, if I procrastinate my work, lol, but I've been starting to think it's too short a time between movies.

While 2 days was just suggested as a minimum originally, it's sort of become the norm. I think we should make it about 4 days. A week would be much too slow for me personally, but even I can't make it in 2 days all the time.

Mabe 4 if we're fine with people skipping movies and closer to 7 if we want everbody to watch everything.

Keep in mind most of us probably have our own lists of movies we're trying to watch, plus life, and new members will want to catch up.

i finished dogtooth. huh, what? i read some threads, spoilers:
did she die at the end? everyone seems to think so. i guess it depends on your outlook. negative people will think she dies, hopeful people imagine she gets out. either way, shes fucked - all that brainwashing...
some people seem to think theres some political allegory subtext.
i didnt care for the movie myself.

I doubt she's dead. She probably just fell asleep or is waiting for the dad to get out. I don't think you can lose enough blood to die just from having a couple of teeth knocked out and a split lip.

I bet it's just art douches saying shit to make their field sound important. I just took it as entertaining 2 hours of weirdness.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge Shakespeare nerd. The Complete Works, with all of its highlighted passages and tiny notations in the margins from high school and college, is one of my prized possessions. But Macbeth is not my favorite of the plays; in fact, I find it the most challenging in that I never want to like it. It's too eerie. I tend to follow the bard reluctantly down the dark road of Macbeth. And this production was no different. The opening scenes with the manic, dying soldier and the creepy witch/nurses really disturbed me and I wanted to turn it off, dismiss it entirely. But then I remembered, "This is how you always feel about Macbeth," and I pressed on.

Obviously, its modern setting gave this production an exciting new take. Macbeth as Stalin? I never saw that coming. And Patrick Stewart was truly incredible-- it's obvious he's been doing Shakespeare for decades-- delivering certain lines in ways that made them fresh and new to me. And his Lady Macbeth was truly just as good! She was power-hungry and haunting, as any Lady Macbeth should be. I'm one of those people who become mesmerized by the language, so I found myself rewinding and re-watching, not wanting to miss the meaning of a single word.

I enjoyed the production. But I did have a few problems: 1) Patrick Stewart is too old to be Macbeth. Macbeth is supposed to be a valiant young buck, the next big thing, a rising star-- not some 70-year-old bald dude on his way out. Stewart's age changes the meaning of Macbeth's murderous reign and his wife's thirst for power. It seems too desperate, somehow. 2) Some of the visuals were bothersome. I found the set too constraining, first off. It felt cramped. And there were parts that felt too shocking and gross. When well acted, the characters themselves are disturbing enough. I don’t need squeezing beating hearts and pissing in sinks. 3) 3 hours??? Come on, now.

Overall, worth the watch for the performances, but I’m wondering if someone who is less a Shakespeare fan would agree. I guess I'll find out...
