Heartbreaking Story
Ok, so I know we've already talked about Dennis Quaid and his newborn twins given huge overdoses of a blood-thinning drug, but this story just came out and it just tugged at my heart.
While most celebs sue for press and for ungodly amounts of money, they're only looking for $50,000 due to the company's neglect. I think it's a fair suit and should definitely win. Especially considering 3 infants already died of the same drug. "Dennis Quaid and wife sue drug maker" By ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press Writer LOS ANGELES - Dennis Quaid and his wife sued the makers of heparin Tuesday after their newborn twins were inadvertently given massive doses of the blood thinner at a hospital. The product liability lawsuit, filed in Chicago, seeks at least $50,000 in damages. It claims that Baxter Healthcare Corp., based in Deerfield, Ill., was negligent in packaging different doses of the product in similar vials with blue backgrounds and failing to recall them after three Indianapolis infants died from overdoses last year. that's bullshit. why should the drug maker be held responsible for doctor's administering the wrong doses? so what if the different doses are in similar packaging? the doctor still has to fucking read the labels.

oh come on? seriously? the drug didn't kill those infants, the doctors improperly administering the drug did.
it's not like the drug makers knowingly marketed a drug for infants that they knew to be harmful. if they did, then the quaids would have something to bitch about. |

For the most part, doctor's are protected in the United States from lawsuits when they fuck up. If they weren't, we wouldn't have any doctors left. That's why hospitals, drug makers, and everyone but the doctor gets sued.

Anyone who works in healthcare knows that it is the nurses who administer the drugs...not the doctors. The doctors just write the orders for it. Usually one RN on a shift is assigned to do the medications.
