Science shows what most comedians already suspected

Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder may share genetic roots with creativity

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0608120145.htm

I've heard K&C talk a lot about mental illness and comedians/creatives, and here's the research that provides the hard evidence for it. Basically, if you have genetic risk factors for schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, you are more likely to be a creative.

Father Says 'Flying Gun' Drone Video Broke No Laws

Published Friday, Jul 17, 2015)
Updated 49 minutes ago
The father of an 18-year-old boy who built a drone with a gun attached and posted video of it on YouTube with the title "flying gun" says they broke no laws.
The footage appears to show a gun affixed to a drone hovering several feet off of the ground in a wooded area. The gun appears to discharge several times while the drone is in flight. In the posting, Austin Haughwout, 18, describes the device as a "homemade multi-rotor with a semi-automatic handgun mounted on it."

Haughwout's father Brett Haughwout said his son is an engineering student at Central Connecticut State University, custom built a drone device that included a spot for a handgun and the capability to fire it midflight. The gun belongs to Brett.
Brett said the video that shows the drone firing the weapon was shot on their property in Clinton, Connecticut. The father and son duo did "extensive research" before assembling the flying weapon to make sure they wouldn't break any laws.
UPDATED

The Clinton Police Department was alerted to the YouTube video this week and were concerned for public safety. Local law enforcement officials said, however, they do not believe the device violates any state law.
The Federal Aviation Administration was also investigating the video.

“The FAA will investigate the operation of an unmanned aircraft system in a Connecticut park to determine if any Federal Aviation Regulations were violated. The FAA will also work with its law enforcement partners to determine if there were any violations of criminal statutes,” said Jim Peters, a spokesperson for the FAA.
This isn't the first time Austin Haughwout has drawn the attention because of a drone video. In 2014, he was involved in an altercation on Hammonasset Beach last year after he flew a homemade drone over the beach. He posted a clip of that incident to the same YouTube channel where the 'flying gun' video was posted.

Haughwout said his son made ad revenue from the previous YouTube and used it to purchase parts for the 'flying gun.' He said he believes Austin could make approximately $1,500 in advertising revenue associated with the "flying gun" video, depending on how many views the video receives. He said Austin will use that money to fund his next project, though it is unclear what he will build.
Though it does not appear any state statute was violated, local police said the idea of a "flying gun" can be discharged remotely is disquieting.

“Our number one job in law enforcement is public safety, first and foremost, the protection of the citizens of the community we serve," said Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn. “That’s alarming,” he said of the device.

Inmate's painful 6-day erection costs NYC $750k in damages

http://www.rt.com/usa/272428-inmate-...n-lawsuit-nyc/

The City of New York has paid a former jail inmate $750,000 after detention center staff failed to address a painful six-day erection which left him impotent. Rodney Cotton, 51, experienced the horrible symptoms while serving time at the Manhattan Detention Complex.

While in prison this guy asked for medical attention. He had a painful erection - the side effect of an anti-depressant. “It just started hurting,” Cotton said. “And I'm like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ It wasn't going down.”

Since his symptoms began on July 4, he was told he'd have to wait until after the holiday weekend to see a physician – despite his obvious pain and “difficulty walking.”

I had to wear briefs or boxers. I couldn’t wear jeans,”Cotton told New York Daily News.“They had me walking around like that for almost a week.”

In desperation, Cotton faked chest pains so he could see a doctor. But he was only given ice packs and Tylenol for his erection.

Finally taken to hospital days later; he underwent surgery to relieve the swelling. And while doctors said the stitches would dissolve on their own, they did just the opposite.

The stitches became embedded in the inmate's skin, and no anesthetic was used when they were removed, according to Cotton's Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.

He suffered permanent injuries to his penis, including loss of function, mutilation of penis, continued pain and discomfort...,” his lawsuit reads.

Piffle says:

The article should have said which antidepressant it was cuz all the kinds I've tried do the opposite. It makes getting hard nearly impossible. I should have a lawsuit against Pfizer for all the times a gal has been offended at my 'half soft'

You can't get a nice hard on. It would make you feel like less of man. Fortunately, you're on an antidepressant and void of feelings. So that's...good? It's a real catch 22.

Cis Drag Queens Banned from Pride Event Because They Might Offend Trans People

by KATHERINE TIMPF July 20, 2015 2:25 PM
@KATTIMPF
Maybe complete and total inclusivity isn’t as easy as it sounds. The organizers of Free Pride Glasgow in Scotland have hit a snag in their mission to plan a totally inclusive event: Some activists think drag queens are offensive to transgender people, others think banning drag queens is offensive to transgender drag queens, and still others think allowing only transgender drag queens is offensive to cisgender drag queens. Whoa. Although drag performances had been part of Free Pride Glasgow for years, the event organizers announced in a statement on Saturday that they would not be allowing them this year because some transgender individuals found “some drag performance, particularly cis drag,” to be offensive because it “hinges on the social view of gender and making it into a joke.” In the original statement, the organizers maintained that since they felt it would “not be appropriate to ask any prospective drag acts whether or not they identified as trans,” they would just cancel drag performances altogether. You know, just to make sure that no one would be uncomfortable. One problem: The attempt at appeasing transgender people who are offended by drag performers wound up offending transgender people who are drag performers. Whoops. So, the group changed its policy again: “After a further consultation, trans drag performers will be invited to perform at Free Pride on the 22nd August,” read a post on the group’s Facebook page on Monday. “The trans caucus and Free Pride as a whole thought protecting the privacy of trans drag performers was the most important thing, but trans drag performers have let us know that letting them perform is more important to them,” it continued. All good? Nope. People are offended by this policy, too, because — you guessed it! — it’s not inclusive to the drag performers who do not identify as trans. * The group’s Facebook page has been flooded with comments expressing disgust at the updated policy: “You apologise to the trans drag performers you have insulted but are still blind to the cis performers who you have equally insulted,” said commenter Michael Harry Rosner. “Great idea! Let’s be inclusive via the medium of discrimination,” said Boris Atlas. Some even went so far as to accuse the group of breaking the law: MORE P.C. CULTURE JUDGING A BOOK BY YOUR IDEOLOGY MANUFACTURING LACK OF CONSENT, PART LXVII WALKER-IS-LIKE-HITLER PROF TRYING TO CONVINCE KIDS NOT TO ATTEND THE SCHOOL WHERE SHE WORKS “The Equality Act 2010 states you cannot discriminate on the basis of gender identity or sex,” Matt Cormack wrote. “If you are hiring performers you cannot refuse to hire them because of they are cis. You can ask to see their routine before hiring them to remove anyone offensive (I would fully support that) but this is going against all the progressive work LGBT people have fought for for decades.” In fact, Free Pride Glasgow’s attempt at making sure the event was completely free of anything offensive wound up offending some people so much that they’re calling on everyone to boycott it altogether. Interesting — it almost seems like it’s impossible to create a situation where you can guarantee that no one will feel offended or uncomfortable. — Katherine Timpf is a reporter for National Review Online.*

'Drunk' squirrel causes hundreds of pounds of damage
16 July 2015

A "drunk" squirrel has caused hundreds of pounds of damage at a private members' club.

The secretary of Honeybourne Railway Club said he originally thought someone had broken into the premises, near Evesham in Worcestershire.

The floor was covered in beer and glasses and bottles smashed, Sam Boulter said.

Mr Boulter, 62, said he then saw a squirrel "staggering around" after coming out from behind a box of crisps.

He added: "There were bottles scattered around, money scattered around and he had obviously run across the bar's pumps and managed to turn on the Caffrey's tap.

"He must have flung himself on the handle and drank some as he was staggering around all over the place and moving a bit slowly.

"I've never seen a drunk squirrel before. He was sozzled and looked a bit worse for wear, shall we say."

Mr Boulter, who estimated he lost about £300 in the incident, eventually caught the squirrel in a waste paper bin and released it out of the window

this will probably make for some arguments

http://7online.com/news/new-york-board-to-finalize-report-on-fast-food-worker-minimum-wage-hike-to-$15/885359/

EW YORK -- New York's Wage Board has finalized its recommendation endorsing a $15 minimum wage for fast-food workers in chain restaurants.

The three-member board met Monday for what is likely the last time to formally adopt the proposal. It will soon go to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's labor commissioner, who will have 45 days to act on the recommendation.

Cuomo supports the proposal.....
