The iPad, or why I now love Apple.
There's a reason I'm posting this on the KATG forums, if you're up for a bit of a TL;DR post, this is for you. If not, maybe skip to the end and I'll have a short summary. This post is a tribute to jeffdrafttech and MrDahonay.
From 2008 prior, I hated Apple. I thought they were a terrible mindless-sheep herding company that did nothing to further technology or humanity. In 2009 after using Windows Mobile and seeing the potential of an iOS device, I started to realize that Apple served a very interesting purpose and was the best fit for a lot of people, especially those who wanted fun in their phones without the headache of a confusing, frustrating and, relatively, boring OS. Come late 2009/early 2010 I continued to see progression with Apple, started to see the diversity of the iPhone platform, how people used it to actually have fun, and how much they enjoyed the phone. I saw the games, many trivial but some very expansive, and realized that the phone I had not only served me no good (I wasn't a user of any of the functions Windows Mobile provided) but were detrimental to me as a whole. I started pining for the iPhone, but resisted because I never thought I could live without a proper keyboard. When the iPad was announced in 2010, howerver, I still thought it was a retarded device and anyone looking to purchase it was a complete moron. I thought it was an oversized iPod Touch (which I still believe it to be, but no longer do I see this as a negative) that was a waste of time, energy and space. I laughed at people who thought it would succeed and simply wrote it off. Around the time that K&C announced their breakup, or maybe just before, no - probably after, I saw this thread: http://www.keithandthegirl.com/forum...pad-how-14924/ I'm post 23, still somewhat hating Apple. But for some reason, I decided to get an iPad. I got a 16 gig WiFi model. Fast Forward to October of 2010. My Zune (shut up) died and I had my brick of a Touch Pro 2. I sat back and asked myself what I wanted. I contemplated getting a iPod Touch but then looked at myself and said - Why, what good would that do for me? then I have a bulky phone AND an MP3 player - I want to reduce, not add. So what did I do? I found somewhere that had a 32 gig iPhone and I used the credit I got through the warranty of the Zune and bought the iPhone. Fast Forward again to December/January of 2011. I decided it was time to brick my Touch Pro 2 and utilize my expensive warranty through Best Buy. I took it back and got my wife an iPhone, just a 16 gig version. She fell in love with it, besting her 1st Gen Blackberry Pearl by, oh, a lil' bit. Fast Forward to March of 2011. Hello iPad 2. Many people didn't see the point in upgrading. But I did. I keep my iPad 1 and give it to my wife/kids. I get the newer fancy pants iPad 2 for me. So I got one. Today... I have used my iPad and iPhone more than any piece of technology I've ever, ever owned. I've never enjoyed technology so much, never did I think that I'd interact in such a way with any device, ever. Never did I think I'd enjoy my phone as much as I do. Never did I think I'd giggle with glee at reading about the new iPad, or saying "that fucking rocks!" when watching about iOS 5. I'm not a nerd, I don't program, I don't slurp - but damn it I love my iDevices. When it's time to replace my computer, I will not replace it with Windows. I will replace it with an Apple device. Same with any other computer in the home. Maybe that will change, depending on finances, but I have had to fight so little with my Apple devices versus any other piece of technology I owned prior, that I see nothing but positives from them. Nothing anybody can say will change how I feel about iDevices. Go on about how happy you are with fully being able to control Android and Windows Phone. GO ahead and rave about the cool things you're able to do with your Playbook where you can watch Flash, and your Xoom where you can have an X to take for show and tell. Nothing you can say will make me want that over an iDevice. I'm a convert, for life. Never did I think I'd say that, but I'm proud to say it now. My only regret is that I didn't check my attitude sooner. But because I did it, I can feel righteous knowing that I saw the options, I tried the options (I've tried Android phones and tablets...) and I came back to my new daddy - Apple. So, that's that. Fuck it's late. Nick |

tl;dr, but I ran it through a text summarizer and read that. Here it is:
I don't have anything worthwhile to comment though.

Well I'll 1up you; Im a PC tech. I hate apple computers. Tried to learn how to use one, hated it. Drag the CD into the trash to eject? wtf.
But I loves me some iDevices. Im big on games. I have a PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, and DS. Since I got my first iPhone (3g) I sold off my DS. (Since I never use it anymore, with gaming on the iphone replacing it) Was going to sell my PSP but I kept it as a media player for my kids. I came into some money and thought, "huh, I can buy an iPad"... before I knew it I had a 16gb wifi model. Sure, its a bigger version of an iTouch whats the big deal? Its an entertainment device - If you buy a TV, do you buy a small TV or the biggest fucker you can afford? I havent upgraded to a iPad2, like you when I do, I'll pass my iPad1 to my wife, who is always stealing it anyway. I am not upgrading because I need to save for a downpayment for a house and the v2 doesnt offer enough upgrades - I am looking for better screen resolution and I'd love for the speakers to be on opposite sides. A good reason to put MP3's on your ipad would be if you use vinylDJ or DJay. some awesome apps for the ipad: Realtor.com VinylLove Vevo HD Air Video AllRecipes CraigsPro+ ComicZeal4 PinballHD WWF Zenonia2 FF Crystal Defense CreepsHD PVZ DeathRally Space Miner Last edited by hellbent; 06-08-2011 at 12:56 PM. |

I have been an Apple fan since a friend of mine showed me his Mac Mini when I was in university - since then I've mostly just had Apple tech (though I'm currently using an Android phone just to see what it's like... not as good as an iPhone, I have to say).
I bought an iPad recently and YES it can pretty much do what my laptop and smartphone can do. However, it's nice to hold the internet in your hands rather than have to sit at a desk or schlep a laptop with you. The best bit is the apps. The most popular apps are very well-designed apps, visually and in terms of user friendliness. That's where Apple beats Android hands down. I'll be selling my HTC Desire for a new iPhone when the next one comes out. |
