He's looking a little like Zach Galifianakis.

I think the guy is obviously having a nervous breakdown. It's a shame his friends, family and managers can't sit him down, send him to rehab or something. I also think Letterman had the best line when he said: "I think we owe Farah Faucet an apology.'' ...then again I'm not sure he though 'bout it off the cuff. Probably one one his many writer's doing. This train wreck of an interview was obviously predictable from the recent gossip about Joaquin. Letterman was probably prepared to crush and ridicule Phoenix. This isn't great interviewing skill à la Frost/Nixon, but more of a public assassination of character in the dog eat dog world that is show business. Letterman could have refused to interview Joaquin and the people behind 2 Lovers could have relieved Joaquin from his obligation of promoting the film. However, from the number of hits this has been getting on YouTube, not having Phoenix on would have been a marketing blunder for both of them. Some suits in a conference room decided it was better for the bottom line to give Joaquin enough rope to hang himself rather then giving him the help he needs to get well. Or maybe it's simply because nobody care. After all, actors are a renewable resource and there are plenty in line ready to take Joaquin's place. Hollywood isn't all glitter, just ask Heat Ledger...oh...that's right, he's dead.

If so, he's really shooting himself in the foot more than Tom Cruise's couch bounching or Christian Bale going ape shit.

Its like Season 1 Episode 6 of 30 rock. Tracy Jordan was deemed normal so he tatooed his face for "Street Cred".

Big gamble though. I'm not sure any celebrity has ever pulled off the 'hey, I was just pretending to be an ass' routine successfully, have they?

The first thing they teach you in drama is to take risks, and I dunno about being an ass, but it's working, everyone is talking about it.
