KATG and the Comedy Podcast Press
Hey, you guys, gather round and listen up a second. There are now sites and writers dedicated to comedy podcasting who're relatively new to podcasting and who don't seem to know about one of the true originals, if not the true original, in professional comedy podcasting, our beloved KATG.
And it's not these people's fault - plenty of podcast listeners didn't discover podcasting until the big boom of comedian podcasts in 2009, and so they naturally and understandably look at the list of comedy podcasts and gravitate toward names they recognised. So here are some sites and writers you can drop a message to, to let them know that if they want to cover comedy podcasting fully they should at least check out the orginators! And remember - BE NICE! Playing the asshole on the KATG forums may have its charms but sending the podcast press obnoxious messages about how they're dumb for not featuring KATG won't help anybody. It won't help you, it won't help them, and it certainly won't help KATG. All we want to say is something along the lines of "Hey, did you guys know there is a successful, independent, fully professional comedy podcast that started waaaaay back in early 2005 and they're up to 1400+ episodes and regularly feature great comedian guests and I love them?" - The Plop List is a podcast directory focused on comedy. KATG isn't on there. Yet. - Christine E Taylor writes about comedy podcasting and has a book about it in the works. She prefers messages on her Facebook, which is linked on her website. - Comedy podcasting network Earwolf has a podcast called The Wolf Den which focuses specifically on the business side of podcasting. They've featured the likes of Marc Maron, Paul F Tompkins, The Sklars and Chris Hardwick and have quite a high profile in comedy podcasting. Who would be better guests for The Wolf Den than Keith and Chemda, who were among the first, if not the very first, to build a podcast from zero to being a fully self-supported business? - The Onion AV Club's Podmass is a weekly roundup of comedy podcasting. They don't feature KATG. They do have a comments section. Again, BE NICE! Acting like a twat in KATG's name on the AV Club comments won't convince anyone to take a look at KATG. Just ask why KATG's not featured and say why you like it. If you can find the time over the next couple of weeks to message one or more of these peeps and let them know that they're missing out on coverage of one of the most important comedy podcasts in existence, it'd be a beautiful thing. |
