KATG not in Podcast Alley Top 50?

I'm listening to backshow to catch up and I am at about 390 (working backwards from the top for some bizarre reason) and I hear them obsessing about their alexa ranking and I just cheked and their current alexa ranking is roughly twice a low as they were cheering about a couple years ago.

Haven't heard alexa mentioned as important in a lnog long time either....

I noticed when I was setting up my Squeezebox Boom. (great audio device)
It has a thing to tune podcast and the top 50 it uses is Podcast Alley.
Podcast Alley may be shit - but it is still the oft looked at measure of top podcasts. Google podcast and podcast alley comes up as the third choice.
About show 300, I found KATG through podcast alley, after a google search for podcasts.

Because Podcast Alley was somewhat relevant then. I've had my podcast in the top 10 a 3-4 times before for a couple of days each and we didn't get ANY spike at all from them (we generally would get like 60-100 downloads of each new show at the time. We'd notice if 10-20 more downloads per day came from Podcast Alley and they didn't). Seriously, it's overrated. They mattered once, but not really anymore. Getting folks to vote on iTunes (we've got around 60-70% of our downloads coming from there) and word of mouth are both much more effective.

I did get messages with people asking how we got in the top 10. I would email a lot of friends on the first of the month. At the time, you could break the top 10 with 30-50 votes for the first couple of days of the month. And honestly, we "Eats Pasted" the voting system there early on a good bit as well. Either way... they're not worth the effort.
