Getting kinda self-conscious. I'm starting to feel fat. Perhaps not fat, but I just really miss how much more defined I was before I stopped my cut. Either gonna restart cutting Aug 1st or more likely Sept 1st and I might try out 36 hour fasting twice a week.
Ever successfully did eat-stop-eat type fasting? |

Hello friends. This past weekend I made it into Baby Dolls, which is the Fresh Meat training program for the Mad Rollin' Dolls. Having spent the last year as a bouting skater in a smaller league, this is something I had to do for me. My league wanted to work a little less hard, which is fine, and a totally valid choice for a league to make, but once I found out that the majority of the league felt that way, I knew that I needed to move on to something bigger where everyone wanted to push to the very limit.
Tryouts were actually pretty tough. Most of the girls I was up against had been skating rec league for a year or even two, and I had a year of rec league experience before moving, so that put me on a pretty even playing field with many of the girls which had me really nervous. I actually kind of love it, the skill level made me work that much harder and makes me feel that much better about making the first two cuts. (one more cut in a month, then teams draft from whose left, which is like another cut). Today was the first official Baby Doll practice and they were kicking my ass from minute one. So much more work goes into this than my old league, or the rec league prior. I. Love. This! With my first league I just didn't want to work that hard. I mean, I wanted to get the skills without making myself hurt, which is kind of dumb, and didn't really work out for me since I got a car to get to practice and stopped walking. With my last league, when I realized how much I wanted this, as well as being fit in general, I found myself supplementing with daily workouts at home, even on practice days. With this league I am like, worried to push it too much at home and be too tired where they are watching me for skill. So I am going to probably figure out a good schedule for that. On Sunday I am taking off on a drive to Vegas for rollercon, which is a roller derby convention and basically 5 days of non-stop derby, should you choose, and I do. Fitness! |

Nope, we have to pay dues and put in volunteer time to run our respective derby leagues. We love it that much. Some skaters are figuring out ways to monetize it a little, but not to make a profit so much as to save more time for derby rather than work.

It's relatively new in this incarnation and evolving rapidly, so who knows how people will make money in the future. For now, most of us have jobs and little time for much else, including socializing outside of derby. I spend very little time with non-derby friends, though I do squeeze in a few hours a week in partysuperparty while I'm working, or instead of working. |
