Great movie but you can tell that some of the stuff must have been staged....or at least it really seemed like it was.

Sigh - The problem is that the DK on the NES was a chopped up half version. It quits after 3 or 4 levels, not to the extent of the real deal. Mind you, i know this only because I read it when I went to download it on the Wii, and gods know I couldn't get past the 2nd or 3rd levels, let alone the 4th or 5th. I'd love an honest to god arcade version that I could tweak, like on the DS "Arcade" remixes..

Wikipedia basically summed it up. And I agree they did a little bit of tweaking to make it seem worse off in SOME situations, but the core is still of Bill being a dickhead, and Steve just being a sort of loser everyman.

Also - you have to realize that the source the whole "They played together, etc.etc.etc." was from Walter Day, not the most reputable of sources.

And regardless, they let Billy's videotape with flubbed tape problems in, and it took away from what Steve had accomplished.

It's a shame that had to add anything in, or change how things seemed... however, it's a far better comparison than something like a Michael Moore flick

Of course, it's easier to debunk Video Games than the US Political/Medical system... SHRUG!

Ok. I finally got around to watching this.

First and foremost, it was a really well-done and interesting documentary.

I think it was pretty obvious that the Billy was a total douche, despite the awesomeity of his mullett. My dad had that same haircut for 15 years.

My biggest complaint with the situation presented in the film was Steve's taped score being rejected, while Billy's was accepted. Even though, as far as I could tell during the film, Billy's taped score was much more questionable that Steve's.

I love documentaries and this is by far one of my favorites. I would also recommend Spellbound, Winged Migration and Paradise Lost, I and II.

LOVED spellbound.

It's the movie that made me thank the gods for having girls.

That robot boy? FUCK ME, what a weirdo.

That was a gorgeous mull... I loved the shot of him brushing his hair in the bathroom. Made me think of the Brady Brunch and Marsha's 400 brushes Okay, so it was "A Very Brady Movie" but close enough.

That BS about Steve's score being kaiboshed when Billy sent his tape was legit, and Walter never said squat about that, the fact that it was accepted with OBVIOUS BS flaws versus Seve's tape was a crock of shit.

And the fact that the creepoids basically invited themselves into the house to check his system out was just, weird. Who knows what they did while they were in there. A female lived in the house, I don't even want to think where they thought he "hid his board"

Oh - and Billy's wife?!? MY GOD. I wouldn't fuck her with Keith's dick!

I still highly recommend American Movie.

"COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEN" FTW

I know I need to watch American Movie. I'm not sure why I haven't, honestly.

And yeah, the hair brushing scene in the movie was awesome. I laughed hard, especially because of the music they put to it. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It was killer.

It's on Netfix "Watch Now" if you don't want to waste a rental on it.

Yea, that billy guy is king of douchebags. I didn't sit through the whole thing, couldn't sit through the whole thing. I watched pieces of it.

Subjects like this are what short films are for.

I finally got around to watching this a couple days ago. I loved it.

EGM magazine had an article about it that explained that yes things were edited to look kind of one sided and that Billy was made to look a lot more "evil" than he really is (I still think he's a big douche anyways). But even knowing all that I found it entertaining the whole way through.

Oh, and as much as I hated Billy, what about his little snitch that hung out at the arcade giving him updates? I wanted to reach into the tv and give him a good shit kicking.

I looked up my friend from high school (Tom Votava) who is a Twin Galaxies referee. It turns our he currently holds 134 video game records and is on the leader board for a bunch more.

Also, I found him in the movie. He is visible when they are watching Billy's tape at Fun Spot.
