Help me please!
I just downloaded a Usenet client and I'm new to the whole thing. Does anyone have suggestions on the best free servers.

All of the usenet forums I used, died when the internet went mainstream. Lots of spammers and low level discussion on once-brilliant conversation forums, post '98. All that's left for community fun is places like these web-based forums. If you value your email address, make sure you use a fake one when posting to usenet.
Check with your ISP, most of them provide a server for you. |

For porn, music, and software get bit torrent. No need for a server, and there is a lot of shit out there. If shit is your thing.... I like lesbians myself. |

Sorry, haven't been on usenet in um... 13 years? That's so cute that you ask though.

The easiest introduction to usenet is probably Google Groups which also has the last 20 some years of usenet posts .. My posts on alt.tasteless.jokes from 1993 are there .. ah, those were the days .. Once, usenet was as popular as various forums on the web .. some would argue that usenet is the real and original internet... some would even argue, that today is Fri Sep 4840 10:20:08 EST 1993 .. the eternal september of 1993 (try to figure out why!) |

the scoop
heres the scoop on newsgroups.....
They are way better and way faster than torrents. Once you start using newsgroups then you'll almost never go back to torrents. They have fucking everything and I just download whole DVD isos now so that I can watch the movie at my girlfriends house. The downside to news groups is that there are NO good free servers. Newsgroups works on a concept called retention time and that shit costs band width. Here are some easy steps to get you involved in news groups: 1) Go to the website www.giganews.com. This is the newsgroups service and these are the server that access Usenet. I have the 24.99/mo acct which allows unlimited bandwidth. If you rent movies this is defiantly worth it. Once you are signed up here they will email you your user name and password and then you can proceed to step 2 2) search google for the program Grabit, which is a newsgroups reader. In this program you will put in your user name and pass to access giganews. 3) goto www.newzbin.com and sign up for an acct and pay for the premeium credit (this shit is cheap, I just paid for 4 wks and it was 2$). This site is a search engine for usenet that categorizes all the posts. There you go. This all sounds complex but once you get it figured out you'll never go back to torrent cause usenet is where everything is posted before it get to torrents. Enjoy. -cheeseball |

Some ISP's have decent servers but their retention rate usually sucks. I personally use Giganews, it's not the cheapest out there but it's BLAZING FAST, and their retention rate is really good. I use Grabit for my newsreader. I like Newzbin for searching for files.
