My conclusion is that the writers of Lost were bullied at school, and are now getting their own back on society by making a series with no plot, by adding in random ideas that never actually achieve a conclusion, just to piss everyone off. The producers conceded a few months ago in an interview that it indeed have some "fantasy/sci fi" plots. I think they decided it was too hard to explain everything without some fantastic explanation. I do think a lot of science fiction has some possibility if the right technology were created or invented.
