You're right, it is apples and oranges. Personally, I like anything that's entertaining to me. Which covers damn near everything that's not this reality bullshit. I'll try anything once, and most shows that are "written" will get at least one episode from me animated or not. Granted there are some whose premise will be so unappealing that I'll decide on not even giving it a try, like any movie that's basically "Pretty Woman".

As for generalizing, that's just it. There is no specific genre to animé, that's what I was trying to convey. It's like blowing off all American TV because you don't like "The Real World". Personally, I don't like the Giant Robot genre, so I don't watch any new Gundam series that comes out. The only one I got into was Martian Successor Nadesico, because it was basically a parody. But there are as many genres of animé as there are regular TV shows. Sci-fi, fantasy, romance, romantic comedies, children's, thrillers, you name it.

About the only thing that you can't recreate in real life is the original artist's depictions. It's the same in America. What's closer to the X-Men comic book, the X-Men animated series in the early '90s or the movies? In Japan, their Animé is usually a direct translation of the manga. Pretty much word for word. If no other reason for it being animated, it's staying true to the story angles, facial features and all. Find me a live action series that is 100% true to the story down to each and every word, angle and action. Even The Pelican Brief was slightly off, and that's about the closest thing to the book I've ever seen.

I'm not saying Animé's better. I'm saying that I've found more Animé series that I liked than live action American series.
you're comparing foreign cartoons to domestic live action. this is why you are retarded. i don't need paragraphs to tell you that there are american cartoons and foreign live action shows. you are being very narrow minded. it's like saying, "there are no good american chicken sandwiches. kobe beef is soo much better."

For the Sub versus Dub argument, usually it depends on which version i've seen first. Back in the day when I were a lad in the early 90's i was very much limited to a few VHS tapes that could be found in the shops and the very seldom screenings on british terrestrial T.V. channels. So the few vids i managed to buy were usually dubbed and whenever i could record something off telly, eg when BBC2 screened patlabor movie it was subbed. It wasn't until late 90's/early 00's that anime really started becoming more commonplace in stores and on t.v.

One that confused me was blood the last vamipre, i got it on dvd but it was both english and japanese dialogue at the same time, didn't like the story much and the fact that we had to watch it with the subtitles when it was only needed for half the dialogue was confusing and detracted from the experience.

While I said that more Anime appeals to me than American live action nowadays, I'm not comparing the points of one to the points of another. My comparison was solely in the question of "Does more original programming come from Japanese Anime or American live action?" Answered by my humble opinion. So to relate your chicken vs. beef analogy, are there more calories in chicken or beef? Do I get more enjoyment out of fried chicken or a steak? Heh, realize you can compare anything and you'll grow out of the infancy you accuse me of.

When the best comedy on television is borrowed from Britain, the most popular show is basically Star Search, and the buzz show is about some drunk orange freeloaders, I'll try my luck with some Anime. As I said, I do watch some American programming, but I (personally) have a better hit ratio with Anime.

I don't like American Idol, so at least I don't not have a right to call this shit.

Reality television isn't unique to America, and Japan has its swarm of shitty shows just as well. The real reason reality programming is so ubiquitous is its low production costs, which in turn promotes competition for the easy profits. It's not an indicator of cultural degradation specific to America alone.

There's ______ Idol for a lot more countries than America.

We have South Park and other shit.

apples to oranges buddy. you're generalizing so much it's toddler-esque.
Let's be honest, it'll be at least another 5 years before we have the technology to reproduce this in real life:

DWarrior, I don't disagree with anything you said. Except the faggot part. But I learned the é, so I'm going to use it. I don't know any others, or I'd use those too. Whatever. I do it on my Droid, too, now that I know how to find the accents.

I'm well aware that there's just as much reality shit everywhere else, but I mention American programming because I live there. And most of the Japanese shit doesn't make it over here, aside from animé and that obstacle show that's kind of like Double Dare and Iron Chef. I don't consider it cultural degradation, but there's definitely a drop in quality American-made programming (again, my opinion).

As for South Park, I love that show, at least the first few seasons of it. It really jumped the shark after the movie. And Americans are starting to accept that animation doesn't have to be kids shows.

I freaking love highschool of the dead, but am I the only one who HATES the fan service in it. I think it discredits what is a very good story and just makes all anime look like bullshit hentai for man-children.
