I always liked Richard Simmons, a nice man who genuinely cared about overweight people.

i didn't listen to the podcast, but with sincerity i reserve for the likes of Bob Ross and Fred Rogers, i hope he's just chilling b/c he wants to and he's ok.

I finished the 6 Eps today. I don't wanna spoil it for any would be listener but it reminded me of the Serial podcast.

I had no idea Richard was such a genius at marketing those goofy workout videos. He sold 160 million VHS tapes. The highest home video sale ever. And he did a clever thing by putting real people in em as opposed to Jane Fonda models.

He was obese as a kid and decided TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT as opposed to simply posting dumb shit like "I eat fast food / ice cream/ what are ya gonna do???

I highly recommend this pod. At least the first ep that gives Simmons bio cuz he was a real empathic/ sweetheart of a guy. He really cared about people and knew firsthand what hell people go through with addiction/ self image.

Stuff like buying his maid a Benz. Or running out to greet Hollywood tourists dressed as a giant bird amongst other stories. Interesting guy. Very honest with himself and others. Endearing.

Hey before I listen, what was your take on Richard's sexuality? Cuz I assumed he was gay, but then the podcast talks about him living with a woman. A gal he referred to as his wife. Then there's the ep that says he disappeared cuz he was transitioning to a woman....but then you also have to factor in he dressed in drag, but also liked to dress as the Duck Dynasty douchebag, just to make fun of rednecks?!

Richard Simmons is SO fucking weird. I love him. I'm glad you did a pod on this because honestly, those 6 eps were a tease and I'm totally in need of more.

I think he's "fluid" at this point... In regards to his sexuality...

I'm guessing she keeps the bed warm when he's in between boyfriends, probably mostly not even sexual.. know what I mean?

I also think Richard just likes to cross dress, doubt he's transitioning fully, but who knows?

Hopefully he's still doing well & is surrounded by people that truly love him.
