New DSLR
Hi,
I am starting a photography course at the end of September and was wondering what DSLR I should get? I was thinking a Sony A300 with dual lens kit. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

There is a huge thread about consumer-grade DSLRs. (I'm also too lazy to search for it right now, perhaps sometime when I'm sober. Edit: Yay, it was being done even as I typed).
I found a used Canon 20D for $500 online, but I'm cheap. The newest Canon affordable DSLR is just as full featured (and then some). Lamb bought one with an IS 18-55 lens for about $800. That price is pretty great. if I could buy again, I would have looked more closely at cameras with the IS built into the camera body. IS is a great advantage unless you plan to shoot everything in great light using a tripod. IS glass really ads up, even if you only want a few lenses. For example, the telephoto zoom I have been considering for my 20D is $200 w/o IS and $450 with it. I really wish I had spent the money for the IS technology in the body so I don't have to buy it every time I buy glass. Olympus seems to have a decent, well reviewed line of IS bodies.
