Should Joel have put unofficial or beta on the app name from day 1 in the android market: sure Should Keith have addressed the issue of the app not working in a more PC manner than the first 'rant' on june 8th or so: sure but the damage is done best wishes to Joel in the future |

I think both parties are in the wrong here, in different ways. Joel shouldnt have reacted in the way he did- i.e suggesting that Keith shouldnt expect a certain level of support as he was doing the work for free. It's completely fair of Keith to expect a prompt response when the name of his business is at stake. Also I think Joel's reaction and personal attacks on keith are a little childish.
However I understand his defensiveness.Keith can be quite intimidating and I think it would be a hard thing for any listener to experience him ranting about them on the show.Keith doesn't realise how angry he comes across, and how cutting his wit can be,especially with thousands of fans backing him up. It seems to me just a bit unprofessional that Keith didn't make further attempts to contact Joel (other than one forum PM) before bringing it up on the show and making it personal. Sad thing is it seems like Joel is genuinely just trying to be helpful here, but some wires got crossed.I think all of this could have been avoided with a simple phone conversation. For what it's worth.
It was the android app that got me listening to the show again. I've taken a break from listening to KATG (not because I was no longer a fan, just there are only so many commute hours in a day and I have been listening to music, audiobooks and other stuff...) Anywhoo I found out the app was updated and on the market and I was like sweet! So I went to the market, downloaded it, pressed the play button and listened to the show. I was pretty excited to hear the show streaming right off my android phone. I assume it's not that big of a deal to the apple users who have had this for a long time and probably take it for granted by now. The bottom line is the KATG app was the only app I know existed and I though it was pretty cool. It's not easy developing apps, especially a free app. Nevertheless, if the app wasn't ready for prime time perhaps it should have remained on the forums and out of the market. The true fans would figure out how to get it running on their phones (it's not exactly rocket science.) I understand Keith for wanting to protect his brand name. I understand Joel for feeling unappreciated and perhaps Keith could have handled things differently. I think a nice sandwich might have have resolved all of this. I'll probably still use Joel's app because I think it's still pretty bad ass. It's a shame development stopped because a few feathers got ruffled. --Dennis <<Insert thoughtful signature here>> Last edited by speeko; 06-17-2011 at 10:04 AM. Reason: my piss poor grammer |

After reading the letters Joel sent, I sort of feel bad for the guy. I would imagine after working hard on the app, he didn't want to just take it down when he knew he could fix it, and he knows that it provides an outlet for some users to listen on their phones.
If someone was making me something for free, I think I would be a little less quick to jump all over their ass when something goes wrong and I would give them a chance to fix it without name calling. Yes, Keith and Chemda have their name on it, but the listeners here are pretty loyal and one bug in an app hardly anyone uses isn't going to ruin their reputation. This guy was trying to do them a favor and in return he wanted a little appreciation. I can understand why he got his feelings hurt because as soon as Keith slammed him, everyone jumped on the bully bandwagon. What I am more surprised about is the fact that Chemda also feels this way. I would have thought she had more compassion for some poor and probably lonely guy who was just looking for some acceptance from someone he looked up to. When I read his letters, I don't see anything that justifies the ass whipping he got. |
