No more Aspergers. OH NOES!

The latest DSM manual has dropped Aspergers Syndrome as a diagnosis.

I await the drama of the Asperpocalypse.

How do you know? The DSM-V isn't coming out until May 2013 and they're still in the consultation phase.

I will answer your question by clarifying my statement, as long as you admit that you are being a little Aspy.

I'm talking about the draft version that was released today.

I thought medical professionals were already classifying it as a form of autism? So then it makes perfect sense for it to be designated as a form of it.

Also, a draft that is 3 years from being ratified is probably not the most accurate reference. It's a draft, not the finalized version.

When my brother was diagnosed in the late eighties, this is what the doctors were trying to get done. Back then, it wasn't even considered close to autism. Being included in the spectrum means that you can have varying degrees of severity. Nowadays, Aspergers is considered more of an ADD type of disorder. Now my brother's form of it, which is more like Rainman lite and much closer to autism but outside the old standard of symptoms, can be included in the research of the spectrum as a whole. Why do people think this is a bad thing?

Yes, you have it too.

But my statement was "The latest DSM manual has dropped Aspergers Syndrome as a diagnosis."

It just so happens that the latest DSM is a draft.
