ocd logo issues and missing katg
not that i ever hung out here much before, but i have had a super long hiatus from katg and lots of stuff
so...i had time to kill the other day, decided to peruse the forums, listened to some shows...and man, it is great to hear katg again! i missed em a couple of things - woah....congrats to keith&cat on the nuptials*, and woohoo chemda&lauren...getting engaged! - WOAH...the grudge hour. fun way to get back in to the swing...what a strange trip down memory lane* - ok...this is such a dumb ocd grip. the logo at the top of the forum. why is the vertical line coming down from the 'K' a rectangular line, whereas the one coming down from the 'G' is tapered?? and why does the 'K' overlap the 'e'...no other letter does that? is there a hidden meaning?? i need to know! /shit that drives me crazee *confession - when i saw that keith and cat got married, i did a quick search for wedding photos cause i'm a weirdo who has listened to so much katg that yadayada i like to see this stuff (gorgeous couple, btw) anyways...i noticed patrice in a picture with her arms all folded and looking like *harumph*...after listening to the grudge hour...heh anyways...it has all inspired me to sign up for VIP looking forward to listening to SO MANY PODCASTS |

Welcome back!!
The grudge hour was awesome, the whole "love is in the air" thing is refreshing and nice. The Patrice thing was a shitshow but this is the kind of life stuff that makes KATG so engaging. Now, to address your OCD.... There is no other appropriate opportunity in the design for a letter overlap other then the Ke scenario. Also, it gives a balance to the logo, Keith and The Girl If Keith's name didn't have a subtle design element the weight of the logo would rest on The Girl. The font for this logo has the descending line in the G taper, the designer simple outlined the font and lowered that line to meet the lowered K line (so s/he could add the frequency design under the Keith and The Girl logo). The designer COULD have equalized that line so it didn't taper but I am sure s/he did and realized that the tapered line was better for the design. These are all opinions but there you go. |

thanks for the thoughtful response!
i'm just a cunty designer with opinions...i think you work in the design industry, correct?...you may know my type i shouldn't be critical, but goddammit i can't help it...typography and all the kerning and stuff that comes with it has always been a passions of mine, and i have preferences...i should be more kind because choosing and manipulating fonts can be a major pain in the ass...but i like that kind of shit because...well i do, ha ...you know how some people are super sensitive to sound quality (like keith) or some people are really critical of grammar (like 85% of the internet)...i'm not as in-tuned to that stuff...i don't always catch the nuances...but visual stuff...my brain is very visually based. that's what i zone in on anyways, this is like an 'oxford comma' moment...just a personal design preference...there is no right or wrong way! some insight to my brain...when i see the tapering on the 'G' , but not on the 'K', it stands out, and looks like it is hinting at being phallic...then my brain is like, why chemda got a dick?...then my brain is like, go chemda!...so ya. we all see things in different ways ok, and since i was a critical douche-bag in my first post in ages, i should add the nice stuff - the quality of the show is stupendous. - having seen so many podcasts fall by the wayside over the years, it is wonderful to see katg still going strong. i was proud to throw money their way because...what a deal! so much content! lots more shows have popped up since i have been away. i want to help you guys be around, having fun, and entertaining us for a loong time! - this website is such a pleasure to navigate. i always find what i want and content is updated. i super appreciate that kind of things (logo minutia is just that...silliness....great job overall) re: patricia ugh...i loved her, but i having now listened to the podcasts that deal with her recentish saga...ooof sucks to lose a friend, sucks to realize that a friend was being a cunt, it all sucks... |

I'm NO designer. Just to make that clear. But I wondered why the G had the extension and not the l. I assumed it was a 'first initial' thing, but to me it would have looked more balanced if it was the first and last letters. Then the extension wouldn't have tapered and the frequency would be able to go under the whole logo, instead of stopping at the G.
I never cared enough to comment (before now, obviously - though I wouldn't have said anything if you hadn't started it ) and I'm certainly NOT suggesting it should be changed.

yes, I design for a living and I work exclusively in Illustrator, the home of font manipulation. I like the tapered G line, call me crazy. To me the less you tamper with the original font the better. They did a couple of things to jazz it up but left the integrity of the font there and I like that.
I wonder what font it is...Now I have to font match....thanks Natrasha |
