Nothing against Swick but maybe my favourite thing from the card was Matt Brown's win. He's had one of those odd Mark Hunt-esque unimpressive records for a while now but something about him makes me really want him to win every time and now he's on this nice streak.

Both Penn and Rua have a case of the silk sheets if you know what I mean.
I know exactly what you mean. They've each won two major title belts and made a ton of moolah, and then there's the oft-told tales of successful, financially secure fighters losing some of their drive once they become fathers which these guys fit to a T.

Rua's looked soft around the middle at 205 since the first Machida fight, just like Penn's long looked soft at 170. These guys hate to cut and don't have the hunger (yes pun) to go through the cuts their opponents do.

I've always liked him, but if we're honest he just hasn't been all that impressive - up-till now that is. This year he's been doing quite well for himself and I imagine seeing pretty nice improvement every time he fights. And last night he looked awesome. Not only the KO which was quite nice, but he moved really well and his grappling looked great.

I was a little disappointed with Rory Mcdonalds performance, instead of finishing off BJ he decided to spend the rest of the fight dancing in front of him. For some reason I enjoyed the prelims much more than the main card. Each main card fight except the Swick vs Brown fight I felt like I knew exactly how the fight was going to play out after the first 2 minutes.

Overall an enjoyable card, I dunno if there are to many talking points that interest after the fact.

Did your boy make the main news shows over there after his latest triumph?

Also, I love The Hives.

Rory and A-Gus have both taken some heat for not finishing their fights, but it's fair to say they were both fighting guys who are really damn hard to finish. BJ and Rua are both only ever one punch away from ruining your night, so I don't blame those younger dudes for playing it safe.

Meanwhile, the UFC's first women's champ got all covergirlified again recently ...

Well, right now Sweden is cold as fuck. It's snow everywhere - I wouldn't mind being somewhere else. :P

Gustafsson was in the sport section, but not in the top/front. A lot of people here watch MMA, but it's still not fully accepted. At least not in the sports pages.

I agree that those guys are tough. No shame in not finishing, even if was quite dominant. I mean, even Siver couldn't put away Phan and that fight was crazy one-sided.

Alistair Overeem before fighting Antonio Silva: "This is just a warm up fight for me on the way to my title shot and I'm going to destroy him."

Alistair Overeem after fighting Antonio Silva: "Where am I?"

Also enjoyed this. It's shitty 240p only but it's still fun. Wrong choice for #1 though.

Also ...

#1 Head kick KO seems correct to me. There are a lot of reasons why it vaults it about the barboza kick. First would be the fact that its heavyweights and everything is better when you scale it up, but also this was still in the day when the "Grappler" vs "Striker" matchup was very common and this matchup had Gabriel as the Jiu-jitsu black belt and Mirko as the best kickboxer/striker in MMA. The last thing expected was Gabriel head kicking Cro-Cop. Also this was at the time (maybe still today) was the most viewed youtube video done by UFC and was the second reason behind Forrest vs Bonnar that started to put UFC in everyones minds.

Any of y'all watching TUF 17? Rating are way up on previous seasons and have held really strong throughout. It even got picked by Entertainment Weekly as the #1 Must See of the week, and they know everything there is to know about television.

I'm with you inasfar as story plays into the most iconic moments in all sports and the Gonzaga/CroCop one had all that story behind it, but technique has to count also and Gonzaga's kick is ugly as hell. My #1 is Anderson dropping Vitor not just because the technique is so crisp, but because seeing a front kick ko in MMA was even more of a surprise than Gonzaga head-kicking CroCop.

I did the same thing I've done with every TUF beginning with 13 (if that was Dos Santos v Lesnar). I watch the first two episodes, proclaim it is awesome, then never talk about it or see it again. I will totally give this season props for allowing families come to see the qualifying fights. That was amazing and made for great television. And from what I saw of Chael he's an amazing coach and orator. He has the charisma to make people walk off a cliff.

At the end of the day I don't care enough about anything to have to it through 30+ minutes of reality television to see a fight.

I'm totally high on Uriah Hall however because he's from Queens, NY.
Queens represent, yo.

Yeah, I've done the same the last few seasons. The first episodes with a ton of fights are great, but after that I can't keep my interest up. At least the first seasons had competitions and stuff.

I heard that the next TUF will feature a mix of men and women living in the same house.
